  • U.S. Army National Guard Pvt. Paul D. Speelman II recently graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox.

    During the nine-week training period, Speelman received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions and core values.

    He is the son of Judy A. and stepson of Barry J. Lamoreux of Prospect.

     

  • The La Grange Police Department presented annual awards in December. Awards and recipients include:

    • Officer of the Year – Detective Bruce Goodfleisch, as elected by fellow officers.

    • Meritorious Service Award – Sgt. Russell Rouff and Officer Doug Hickerson; 

    • Crime Prevention Award – Officer Ray Whitehill;

    • Accident Investigation Award – Officer Scott Wolf;

    • Traffic Enforcement Award – Officer Scott Wolf; and 

  • Jeffrey D. Smith recently completed basic training at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

    He completed a 12-week course of intense training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both mentally and physically. 

    He is stationed at Camp Geiger, N.C. for four weeks of combat training. His field of expertise will be in ground ordinance electrical calibration, requiring an additional eight months of training beginning this month.

    He is the son of Stephen and Rebecca Smith of Centerfield and a 2009 graduate of Oldham County High School.

  • Scot and Taren Winskye of La Grange announce the birth of their daughter, Chloe Mae Winskye, Sept. 24 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. 

    She weighed seven pounds, 4 ounces and measured 21 inches. She is the sister of Noelle Sophia Winskye.

    Maternal grandparents are Randy and Trish Ferris of Jeffersontown and maternal great-grandmother is Elfieda Plutat of Kokomo, Ind. Paternal grandparents are Marilyn Schaeftlein and the late Dick Winskye and Mary Lou May of Brandenburg. Great-grandmother is Mildred Schaeftlein of Shively.

  • Bryan and Jennifer Robison of Crestwood announce the birth of their daughter, Makenzie Dolorita Robison, Nov. 3 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. 

    She weighed six pounds, nine ounces and measured 19 and a half inches.

    Maternal grandparents are Dan and Dolorita Johnson of Versailles. Paternal grandparents are Alan and Margaret Robison of Crestwood.

  • North Oldham High School graduate and Transylvania University sophomore Stephanie Townsend is one of 91 students who recently participated in Transylvania’s 18th annual Crimson Christmas philanthropic event.

  • Anne Gore Warren and Rev. Thomas Pyle were married Nov. 20 in Somerset.

    Jennifer Upchurch was maid of honor and Alan Stringer was best man.

    The bride is the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret Gore. The groom is a native of Christian County and employed by Somerset Undertaking Co. and Crematory.

    The couple lives in Somerset.

  • U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Christopher S. Reinke recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

    Reinke completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Reinke is the son of Gary and Debi Reinke of Crestwood and a 2006 graduate of Christian Academy of Louisville.

  • Steve and Laura Schweitzer of Nicholasville announce the engagement of their daughter, Lindsey Schweitzer to Buck Hartlage, son of Dutch and Sandy Hartlage of Crestwood.

    The bride-elect is a 2005 graduate of East Jessamine High School. She will graduate in December with degree in elementary education from Eastern Kentucky University. She is employed by Our House at the Pinnacle. She is the granddaughter of Ed and Joan Schweitzer of Crestwood.

    The groom-elect is a 2005 graduate of Oldham County High School. He attends EKU and is employed by Nationwide Fence Co.
