  • King graduates from U.S. air force basic training

    U.S. Air Force Airman Justin D. King recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

    He is the son of Jerry and Candy King of La Grange.

    He is a 2004 graduate of Oldham County High School.

    He is the grandson of Tom and Noralee Moock. His sister is Senior Airman Tammy Sherer of the U.S. Air Force.

    Police Doughnuts recently celebrated its grand opening in La Grange.

    Located at 307 S. First St., Police Doughnuts offers coffee, milk, sodas and doughnuts made fresh daily. 

    The owner is Brenda Martin and hours are from 6:30 a.m. until doughnuts are sold out.

  • Phillips wins talent competition at Garrard County Fair

    Jordan Phillips recently won first place in a preliminary talent competition at the Garrard County Fair. 

    She moved on to compete in the semi-finals of the Coca-Cola Talent Classic at the Kentucky State Fair in the female vocal category.  

    She is a sophomore at Oldham County High School and a member of the OCHS choir. She is also a member of the Louisville Youth Theatre performance troupe.

     Brooke Renae Sabo and Ryan David Sale were married June 27 at First Baptist Church of Prospect with Ben Winters officiating.

    The bride is the daughter of Anthony and Donna Sabo of La Grange. She graduated from International Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla. and works at Scissor and Comb in Crestwood. 

    The groom is the son of David and Debbie Sale of Louisville. He graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach and works at Louisville Gas and Electric.

    New officers were recently elected at a meeting of the Oldham County Democratic Party Executive Committee.

    Elected to serve as chair is Rick Garlock of Centerfield; vice chair is Sandra Gerbino  of Crestwood; treasurer is John Sutton of Crestwood; and secretary is Dean Furman of Prospect.

  • Quilt is part of this weekend’s Brownsboro Days festival

    A drawing for a hand-stitched quilt will be part of Brownsboro Days festivities this weekend. A former student of Brownsboro school before it joined Crestwood in 1943, Mary Noel McKinney stitched the double ring quilt.

    The festival is 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Brownsboro Community Center on Ky. 329, about one mile from I-71 exit 14.

  • Bryant, Houle are new directors at Baptist Hospital Northeast

    Justin Bryant is the new director of Environmental Services. He is employed by Aramark. He comes to Baptist Northeast from Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Va., where he worked in environmental services for three and a half years. 

    Prior to that, he worked in environmental services in nursing homes for Healthcare Services Group. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sports entertainment and event management from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I.

  • Barnes chosen as state finalist in pageant

    Elizabeth Rose Barnes, 5, was chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Kentucky Pageant last month at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington.

    The pageant is for girls ages 4 to 6. Barnes’ activities include ballet and singing.

    She was sponsored in the pageant by Todd Waits of Perkins and Crestwood Nails.

  • Historical visitor

    The Goshen Area Homemakers, an Oldham County Extension Homemakers Club, recently hosted a luncheon at the John Black Community Center featuring a Mary Todd Lincoln theme.

    The theme was in honor of the bi-centennial celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. Carol Fessler, a member of the Goshen Area Homemakers, portrayed Mary Todd Lincoln. Another member, Pat DeChurch, wrote the monologue, introducing Fessler and asking the guests to put themselves back in time to 1862 in La Grange.
