  • South Oldham students present 'Beauty and the Beast' tonight

    Students at South Oldham High School will present "Beauty and the Beast" this weekend.

    Public performances of "Beauty and the Beast" are 7 p.m. Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24. A matinee performance is scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24. 

    All performances take place in the SOHS auditorium, 5900 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Crestwood.

    Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens. Call 241-6681 for information.

  • Cyrano de Bergerac opens Friday at St. Francis School

    Jealousy, beautiful costumes, unrequited love, chivalry, deceit, swordplay and a prominent proboscis – the Barbra Streisand Story?
    No! It’s Cyrano de Bergerac, proudly undertaken by the St. Francis School Drama Project as its spring production.
    Performances will take place in the school’s Garvin Brown Amphitheatre located at 11000 U.S. 42 in Goshen.
    The classic Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmund Rostand, opens Friday, March 23 and runs through March 29.

  • Hospital’s antique photo shoot April 14 will benefit Relay for Life

    The Baptist Hospital Northeast Oldham County Relay for Life team is sponsoring an antique photo shoot for children from newborn to age 12 on Saturday, April 14, at the hospital.
    Teens can be photographed with younger children. The cost is $10 for an 8x10 photograph.  The proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

  • Yew Dell Botanical Gardens weekend hours begin April 1

    Come out and see the early spring blooms, have a picnic, take a stroll, read a book, hike the trail or just sit!

    Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is a gorgeous and relaxing place to visit for an hour or the day.

    Weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

    Admission $7 for adults, $5 for seniors over 55 and free for children under 12.

  • Will Jones: A teacher who will be remembered

    Countless good memories are buoying members of the North Oldham High community after the loss of an inspiring teacher.

    After waging a long battle with cancer, teacher Will Jones, 37, died early March 15.

    Madeleine Ricks, a 2009 NOHS graduate, said she is finding solace in her memories of the human geography and world history teacher.

    Johnny Glauber was born June 3, 1938, on Main Street in La Grange above his family’s store – Glauber’s Five and Ten Cent Store.
    “My dad’s name was John William Glauber and my mother was Opal Stapp Glauber. My dad was from Harrodsburg and my mom was from Russell Springs. They were married in Campbellsville in 1932.

    Dogs are man’s best friend, and man is willing to pay for the privilege. Pet owners continue to spend big bucks on their companions — not just dogs, but cats and other small animals, too.

    Norma Rash is one of those. 

    She has three dogs and one cat — she calls the dogs “the boys” and admits they are spoiled rotten.

    “Nothing is too much for the boys,” she said.
