  • Michael James Hooks, 14, of Crestwood Kentucky, has earned the highest advancement award Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

    A member of Lincoln Heritage Council, Troop 170, Hooks is one of approximately four percent of all boys who attain the Eagle rank. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue related service project to earn his Eagle.

  • A man sent a check to the government for back taxes with a note attached that said, “I felt so guilty for cheating on my taxes I had to send you this check. If I don’t feel any better, I’ll send you the rest.”

  • Arriving early one Sunday a preacher sat down at a local donut shop, opened his Bible and went over his sermon notes. A man at the counter asked, “You a preacher or something?” The preacher replied that he was and the man asked which church. The preacher told him which church and he responded excitedly that he went to that church.

    The preacher said, “I’ve been preaching there for about three months and I’ve never seen you there.”

  • A man called his parents to wish them a happy New Year and his dad answered the phone. He said, “Hi Dad, what’s your New Year’s resolution?” His Dad answered proudly, “To make your mother as happy as I can all year.” When Mom got on the phone he asked her the same question and she answered, “To see that your dad keeps his New Year’s resolution.”

  • I don’t know where this story came from, but I love the way an unsuspecting traveler finds himself in the middle of a miracle. Jerry is on his way to Chicago on business and prays, “Please God, do me a favor. Let there be an empty seat next to mine, I don’t need any distractions.” Instead, he is seated next to a young boy named Michael, who is traveling unattended and he is scared. As the jet prepares for takeoff Jerry says to Michael, “Right about now, I usually say a prayer. I ask God to keep the plane safe and to send angels to protect us.”

  • The prophet Isaiah writes, “This is what the LORD says to me: “As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey - and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor - so the LORD Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights” (Isaiah 31:4). Who is this great lion, the Lord God Almighty, who fights these great battles?
