  • April's Living Treasure: Waldi Gault

    Waltraud “Waldi” Anna Gault became a U.S. citizen in 1970 in Chicago.

    “I am born of German descent in a place very few people have ever heard of, in the town of Eger in the Sudetenland, in Bohemia. Today, the town is called Cheb and in the Czech Republic.”

    Eger was one of the oldest and most prosperous cities. It is first mentioned in 1061 when it was founded by Celtic tribes.

  • March 2012 Living Treasure: John Glauber

    Johnny Glauber was born June 3, 1938, on Main Street in La Grange above his family’s store – Glauber’s Five and Ten Cent Store.
    “My dad’s name was John William Glauber and my mother was Opal Stapp Glauber. My dad was from Harrodsburg and my mom was from Russell Springs. They were married in Campbellsville in 1932.

  • Historic church restoration begins

    After 117 years, DeHaven Baptist Church is getting a facelift.

    The historical structure, located in downtown La Grange, is undergoing major exterior renovations beginning this week to restore the masonry and protect the structure.

    Keith Bradford, chair of the church’s property and space committee, said the restoration will help protect the building for future generations.
