  • A call for Biblical repentance

A man sent a check to the government for back taxes with a note attached that said, “I felt so guilty for cheating on my taxes I had to send you this check. If I don’t feel any better, I’ll send you the rest.”

  • Tips on how to find your church home

Arriving early one Sunday a preacher sat down at a local donut shop, opened his Bible and went over his sermon notes. A man at the counter asked, “You a preacher or something?” The preacher replied that he was and the man asked which church. The preacher told him which church and he responded excitedly that he went to that church.

The preacher said, “I’ve been preaching there for about three months and I’ve never seen you there.”

  • Reasons not to attend a church

A man called his parents to wish them a happy New Year and his dad answered the phone. He said, “Hi Dad, what’s your New Year’s resolution?” His Dad answered proudly, “To make your mother as happy as I can all year.” When Mom got on the phone he asked her the same question and she answered, “To see that your dad keeps his New Year’s resolution.”

  • Let God use you in a miracle

I don’t know where this story came from, but I love the way an unsuspecting traveler finds himself in the middle of a miracle. Jerry is on his way to Chicago on business and prays, “Please God, do me a favor. Let there be an empty seat next to mine, I don’t need any distractions.” Instead, he is seated next to a young boy named Michael, who is traveling unattended and he is scared. As the jet prepares for takeoff Jerry says to Michael, “Right about now, I usually say a prayer. I ask God to keep the plane safe and to send angels to protect us.”

  • From the peaceful nativity to the Lion of Judah

The prophet Isaiah writes, “This is what the LORD says to me: “As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey - and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor - so the LORD Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights” (Isaiah 31:4). Who is this great lion, the Lord God Almighty, who fights these great battles?

  • Can Santa survive Christmas Eve?
  • A Santa miracle for the Christmas season

Always believe in miracles. That is what all of us need to remember as we enter into another Christmas season. There is plenty of cynicism and skepticism to go around, but I say focus on the miracle that God became human in Jesus Christ and that miracle can give us hope no matter what situation we find ourselves in. I found an old story from Guidepost Magazine’s book Christmas Miracles, c. 2008. The story is edited, for this article, but the full version can be found on the internet. It always brings a tear of joy to my eyes.

  • The Word of God: Read it, not about it
  • Earley: The Bible is alive and active

Over the last two weeks I have shared some basic information about why I think the Bible is a reliable and authoritative word from God. The following story illustrates vividly that God uses His word to change lives. The following is taken from a letter written by Mils and Sandy Becker in 1995.
