  • Apologetics: Did Jesus really exist?
  • Apologetics: God cares what you believe

For the next few weeks I want to explore a topic that has always intrigued me – apologetics.

Christian apologetics is defined best by the Bible in I Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

  • The Bible loves science

Did you know that the first bone of a large unknown reptile was discovered in 1822?  It was discovered by Mary Ann Mantell and later named “Iguanodon” by her husband. As the years proceeded archeologists found more and more bones and skeletons from these mysterious giant reptiles now known as dinosaurs.

  • Have a holy fear of an intimate God

Five-year-old Johnny was in the kitchen as his mother made supper. She asked him to go into the pantry and get her a can of tomato soup, but he didn’t want to go in alone.
“It’s dark in there and I’m scared.”
She asked again, and he persisted. Finally, she said, “It’s OK, Jesus will be in there with you.”
Johnny walked hesitantly to the door and slowly opened it. He peeked inside, saw it was dark, and started to leave when all at once an idea came, and he said, “Jesus, if you’re in there, would you hand me that can of tomato soup?”

  • May God bless America again and again

As we celebrate our national independence and the gift of liberty that comes with being Americans, I also want to celebrate the wonderful series of checks and balances that exist in our three branches of power in the U.S. Government.

  • Will we recognize each other in heaven?
  • What is the point in serving others?

Two cows were grazing alongside a highway when a tanker carrying milk passed the field they were in. On the side of the truck in big red letters were the words, “Pasteurized, homogenized, standardized, Vitamin A added.”

One cow turned to the other and remarked, “Makes you feel sort of inadequate, doesn’t it?”

  • National Day of Prayer a great success

Last Thursday, May 7, the Oldham County Ministerial Association hosted two prayer events, at noon at the La Grange Courthouse, and at 7 p.m. at the John Black Community Center.  Both were attended by the largest crowds we have had at such prayer events since the first National Day of Prayer event after 9/11.

  • A prayer for healing among our churches
  • God asks, 'Do you trust me?'

The 40 years leading up to the Revolutionary War was a time known as the First Great Awakening.  It was a time when the Holy Spirit moved through the 13 colonies like it did in Acts 2.  The spiritual courage and dedication to fight for freedom were forged.  One of its greatest preachers was George Whitfield, who also had a good friend, Ben Franklin.  A delightful story is told by Franklin, who was listening to Whitfield preach, and knew the appeal for an offering to support the orphanage in Georgia would come at the end of the sermon.
