  • Blood drives scheduled

    Inside the 58 hospitals served by American Red Cross, River Valley Blood Services Region, blood needs are constant for patients diagnosed with cancer and other serious illnesses; victims of automobile and other accidents; infants born prematurely; and many others.

    Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion. However, the average blood donor in the 68-county service area donates blood an average of only one time each year, although many individuals can donate blood as often as every 56 days.

    Holiday Bazaar

    The annual Holiday Bazaar at Covenant United Methodist Church will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Shopping from 10 to 1, lunch served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Come when the doors open for best selection. Christmas decorations, decorated trees, handmade items and baked goods and more available.

    The bazaar will be located at 909 West Jefferson Street (Hwy. 146) in LaGrange.

    On Sat., Oct. 26, in conjunction with Pewee Valley Woman’s Club’s Arts & Crafts Day, the Pewee Valley Historical Society is holding tours of The Beeches, 125 Central Avenue, former home of “Little Colonel” author Annie Fellows Johnston.

    Arts & Crafts Day

    Sponsored by the Pewee Valley Woman’s Club Saturday, October 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church Over 60 juried artists at this indoor location! Proceeds benefit Oldham County college scholarships. Artisans will also be at St. James Church, St Aloyusius Church and at 314 Exchange on Mt. Mercy Drive in Pewee Valley.   • FireFest on Horizon

       The South Oldham Fire Department will host its second annual Firefest to benefit Crusade for Children on October 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Oldham Fire Department.  This Open House event for the community will feature fire fighting teams competing in firefighter combat challenges, a fire apparatus showcase, fire prevention programs, a fire safety trailer, music, local businesses, large inflatable games for children, and barbecue. 

  • History Center continues Bibb dig

    The Oldham County History Center will host an archaeology investigation under the direction of archaeologist Jeannine Kreinbrink. This is a continuing investigation at the Gatewood Plantation located in Trimble County, which was the last place Henry Bibb was a slave before he gained freedom by escaping north where he became the first black editor of a Canadian newspaper. The dig will take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. Children age 13 and up are welcome with the company of an adult. Participation is free but limited and reservations are required.
