  • Arts on the Green in La Grange this weekend

    The Oldham County courthouse square in La Grange will be filled with arts, crafts, music and food this weekend for the 14th annual Arts on the Green, presented by the Arts Association of Oldham County.

    This year, the juried arts and crafts festival features more than 130 artists showcasing original handcrafted paintings and drawings, mixed media, photography, ceramics, sculpture, glass, jewelry, consumables, metal, yard art, wood and fiber.

  • Annual Blue Hydrangea Tea Party to benefit ovarian cancer research

    Historic Downtown La Grange will host its annual Progressive Blue Hydrangea Tea Party to benefit Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky at 1 p.m., April 21st.

    This is the sixth year for the event, which has drawn about 1,000 people and has raised more than $10,000 in past years.

    The Tea Party is considered a success each year by local businesses, attendees and the Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky organization.

  • Crestwood Festival is Sept. 8

    A full day of family-friendly entertainment is planned Sept. 8 for the Crestwood Festival.

    The Maples, a sprawling property between Ky. 22 and Ky. 146 near Dairy Queen in Crestwood, will bustle with vendor booths, games and live performances, including featured bands Hog Operation and The Monarchs.

    High-flying pancakes will kick off the festival as John Young brings his Chris Cakes equipment to serve breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m.

    Oldham County’s largest event will fill downtown La Grange this weekend with music, vendors, food and a parade.

    It is the 42nd annual Oldham County Day, presented by the Project Guild of La Grange.

    This year’s parade — a keystone of the event — will honor the late Buddy Head, a life-long Oldham County resident and community supporter.

  • Leadership class to host free teen movie night

    Participants in this year’s Leadership Oldham County program are reaching out to local youth for their capstone project.

    The group is launching a “Free Friday Flick” program, offering the first movie July 13.

  • Crestwood Civic Club hosts annual garden tour, luncheon Friday

    Three Crestwood gardens will highlight the annual Crestwood Civic Club Garden Tour and Luncheon on Friday. 

    The fundraising event features the homes of Bob and Kathy Dunn, Paul and Stephanie Virg and Craig and Lori Belling.

    Each garden has a unique story. 

  • Concert to benefit Ind. tornado victims

    An internationally-known composer is lending his talent to help support victims of a tornado that destroyed Henryville, Ind., in March.

    Eric Genuis, a Simpsonville resident, will perform a benefit concert April 24 at the Oldham County Schools Arts Center.

    “I’m excited about using the music I compose to bring awareness to the need in Henryville,” he said.

    Often, support pours into a community immediately following a natural disaster, but wanes before the need is filled, he said.

  • Third time’s the charm for Oldham Icon winner

    After three years of trying, one local singer finally nabbed the Oldham Icon crown.

    Brandy Neelly, a North Oldham High School junior, won the annual singing contest with her rendition of “Up To The Mountain.”

    Judges evaluated 30-second acapella auditions Friday night and 16 singers returned for Saturday’s final round of competition.

    Neelly, 17, competed in the past two competitions and finished second last year.

  • Concert series complements New Harmonies exhibit

    The Oldham County History Center will host New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music March 1 through April 21.

    This exhibit is part of the Museum on Main Streets program that is a partnership between the Kentucky Humanities Council and the Smithsonian Institute.  

    New Harmonies is a cultural history of America’s musical landscape. It’s the story of a diverse assortment of people interacting with a new world, where cultures and customs met, mixed, mingled and created new sounds.  

  • Gee to speak at leadership event

    In honor of International Womens Day and Kentucky Women’s History month, the Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a one-day women’s leadership conference.

    The event will provide a wealth of knowledge in areas that affect personal and professional development. Women who attend will have the opportunity to network and interact with other business women in our area.
