  • Oldham County native, veteran returns for talk at history center

    Join the Oldham County History Center in celebrating the life and adventures of WWII veteran and Oldham County native, Dr. E. Bruce Heilman on Friday, July 18. In 2008, Heilman published his memoir, An Interruption That Lasted a Lifetime: My First Eighty Years. He will present a short program based on his book and also have copies available for sale and signing. Lunch is included in the ticket price for this program.

  • Two graduate from Kentucky Boys State program

    On June 13, Chris Hidalgo, graduated from Kentucky Boys State. Kentucky Boys State is a premier leadership program for male juniors in high school to teach them about the working of local and state government in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. There is a similar program for females with Girls State. This week-long program takes place during the summer, this year from June 8 - 15, at the Wendell H. Ford Training Center in Greenville. Established over 74 years ago, this leadership program is highly regarded by scholarship programs, ROTC and Academy appointments and employers.

    Recycling drive

    Immaculate Conception Church in La Grange and Ewaste Systems are sponsoring a recycling drive to collect unwanted electronic waste (e-waste) from the local community on Saturday. This drive is a fundraiser for the parrish.

  • Bednarski honored as Oldham County Extension Leader of the Year

    Jon Bednarski was recently honored with the Oldham County Extension Leader of the Year Award. This award is given to an extension volunteer who has shown outstanding leadership and commitment to Oldham County extension programs. Jon is a farmer and serves on Oldham County’s Extension Council and District Board. He is also the president of Oldham County Cattlemen’s Association. Oldham County Extension Council President Nancy Dahlgren presented the award to Jon Bednarski.

  • AAOC meet the artist night

    The Arts Association of Oldham County and Gallery 104 presents Meet the Artist Night, Saturday from 5 - 8 p.m. This month we feature artist Tom Kinney. Who knows who else might pop in and create with us? Meet the Artist Night is a feature of La Grange’s Art on the Tracks. We now have six art galleries/studios on NE Main Street. These include Utopia Studio, Gallery 104, Art Gallery on Main, Kinney/Fire it Up Studio Prather, Inc. and the Campbell Studio.

  • Ross wins conservation award

    Kendall Ross, a 2014 graduate of Oldham County High School, was this year’s recipient of the Glenn Watson Conservation Award. Kendall will be attending Lindsey Wilson College this fall and plans to major in education, focusing on middle school science. Kendall’s parents are Jim and Toni Ross. Kendall has been a volunteer for many activities through the OCHS community service club. She has also had leadership roles in the Kentucky Youth Assembly and Kentucky United Nations Assembly.

    The 15th annual Arts on the Green, presented by the Arts Association of Oldham County (AAOC) was held on June 7-8 on the La Grange Courthouse Square. This year, the juried fine arts and crafts festival featured more than 130 artists showcasing original handcrafted paintings and drawings, mixed media, photography, ceramics, sculpture, glass, jewelry, consumables, metal, yard art, wood and fiber.
