    Apple Patch Community is celebrating the second annual Founders’ Benefit Breakfast on Friday. Apple Patch seeks to improve the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through residential options and other support services that assist individuals in achieving their highest potential to lead independent and productive lives.

  • CityPlace to unveil Nativity scene for Christmas

    The Rawlings Foundation has commissioned renowned sculptor, artist Guy Tedesco to sculpt a life-sized Nativity which will be displayed at CityPlace during the Christmas season. The Nativity at CityPlace will be unveiled during Light Up La Grange at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, with music performed by an ensemble of the Louisville Chorus.

    All are invited to join in the unveiling ceremony and to visit The Nativity at CityPlace, as additional figures are added to the life-sized Nativity scene during the weeks of Christmas.

  • Metro United Way will hit Oldham for ‘Giving Tuesday’

    “Giving Tuesday” will mean feet on the street next week as the Metro United Way Oldham Advisory Council launches a “100 for $100” campaign.

    The campaign will encourage 100 local businesses to each give $100, according to Tracy Green, council vice-chair.

    “We know Oldham County is filled with vibrant small businesses that each contribute to the success of our community,” Green said. “This is a way for them to get involved with Metro United Way and all it does for Oldham County residents.”

  • Local wins ‘friend of the library’ award for work on legal case

    The Friends of Kentucky Libraries (FKL) has presented the “2014 Outstanding Library Advocacy Award” to Virginia H. Snell of Oldham County and Mark Overstreet of Franklin County. The Friends of Kentucky Libraries is a nonprofit organization made up of individuals and local Friends chapters who support and celebrate Kentucky’s libraries.

  • Meet the Grinch during Light Up La Grange

    Children of all ages are welcome to visit the Oldham County History Center on Friday, Dec. 5 when the Grinch will be in the Peyton Samuel Head Family Museum from 5:30 until 9 p.m. during Light Up La Grange.

  • Polar Express, skating rink add to city’s annual Christmas festivities

    The 28th annual Light Up La Grange celebration, powered again this year by LGE-KU, is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in downtown La Grange. This year’s theme is “the La Grange Polar Express” and integrates the La Grange Railroad Museum into the activities along with a synthetic ice rink on Second Street, and festivities and music in five locations around town including strolling carolers.

    American Legion

    The December meeting of Oldham County Post 39 American Legion will be Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., lower level American Legion Post #39 building, 2301 West Highway 146, East end of the Oldham County Fairgrounds. Refreshments furnished after the meeting. All veterans welcome.

  • Mahan Manor to be included in Holiday Home Tour

    Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 22 for the Crestwood Civic Club Annual Holiday Home Tour and Luncheon. This year’s tour will feature three distinctive homes, two landmark homes in the Goshen area and one expansive home in Pewee Valley, all located in Oldham County.
