  • Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce presents fundraising check

    The Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce recently presented a check for $3,500 to The Council on Developmental Disabilities from the PACC’s Sept. 14 Golf Scramble.  

    The scramble, held at Eagle Creek Golf Course in La Grange, drew more than 70 golfers.

  • Crestwood Civic Club hosts annual garden tour, luncheon Friday

    Three Crestwood gardens will highlight the annual Crestwood Civic Club Garden Tour and Luncheon on Friday. 

    The fundraising event features the homes of Bob and Kathy Dunn, Paul and Stephanie Virg and Craig and Lori Belling.

    Each garden has a unique story. 

  • Concert to benefit Ind. tornado victims

    An internationally-known composer is lending his talent to help support victims of a tornado that destroyed Henryville, Ind., in March.

    Eric Genuis, a Simpsonville resident, will perform a benefit concert April 24 at the Oldham County Schools Arts Center.

    “I’m excited about using the music I compose to bring awareness to the need in Henryville,” he said.

    Often, support pours into a community immediately following a natural disaster, but wanes before the need is filled, he said.

  • Apple Patch welcomes new executive director

      After a nationwide search, a new executive director is hoping to continue growing a Crestwood non-profit.

    Arthur Avitabile is the new director of Apple Patch, an organization that promotes independent living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Local non-profit arms residents with basic computer skills

    An Oldham County group is working to not only provide technology education, but provide a networking resource for technology-minded people.

    Oldham County Technology Advancement Network Enterprise — known as OCTANE — started about eight years ago as an offshoot of Oldham Chamber and Economic Development, said founder Beach Craigmyle.

    It was a special-interest group within the chamber, with Oldham County Online owner Lambert Franklin an early supporter.

  • Apple Patch hosts boat race

    A local non-profit celebrated Derby week with its own unique twist Thursday.

    Apple Patch, a Crestwood-based organization, hosted its second-annual boat race for employees and clients the day before the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Great Steamboat Race.

    Apple Patch promotes independence for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Harmony Landing promotes two, welcomes three new employees

    Harmony Landing Country Club recently promoted two employees and hired three others to work at the Goshen establishment.

    • Karen Groody is the new general manager. She has served as the country club’s controller for the past eight years.

    A Chicago native, Groody is a certified public accountant and a member of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Club Managers’ Association.

    • Sherry Haley has been promoted to clubhouse manager. She previously was the club’s director of membership and events.

  • Crestwood Festival is Sept. 8

    A full day of family-friendly entertainment is planned Sept. 8 for the Crestwood Festival.

    The Maples, a sprawling property between Ky. 22 and Ky. 146 near Dairy Queen in Crestwood, will bustle with vendor booths, games and live performances, including featured bands Hog Operation and The Monarchs.

    High-flying pancakes will kick off the festival as John Young brings his Chris Cakes equipment to serve breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m.

  • Agape thrift shop serves all

    The giving spirit in Oldham County extends year-round, not just after natural disasters.

    Several charities in the county help furnish needy families with clothing, household items and toiletries.

    The Agape Thrift Shop, part of Immaculate Conception Church, moved to a new location in February, more than doubling its previous space, according to Barb Johnson, the church’s business manager.
