  • Prospect resident receives Air Force Academy appointment

    Blake Benefield, son of Kim Benefield of Prospect, received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His is the grandson of Jim and Brenda McNuer of Laurens, South Carolina.

  • CASA Award

     

    Carolyn Wilding was the recipient of CASA of the River Region Volunteer of the year Award for Oldham, Henry, and Trimble Counties at the annual volunteer appreciation dinner held on April 21 at the Sawyer Hayes Community Center. Wilding has been a volunteer with the agency,

    which works within the family court system to assist children who have been abused or neglected, since 2007. CASA served 465 children in its six county service area in 2013.

    Tess Gerdemann just returned to North Oldham High School after spending the fall semester as U.S. Senate Page appointed by Sen. McConnell. On her first day of service on the Senate floor she witnessed the Senate debate on Syria; she worked all night during Sen. Cruz’s filibuster; and she witnessed the daily back and forth among the Senators as they wrestled with the budget issues and government shutdown. Gerdemann is pictured with U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell.

  • Crowning moment

    Skylar Stark, daughter of Patricia and Jonathan Stark, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Kentucky Pageant to be held may 9th and 10th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville. This pageant is held for girls ages 4 through 6. The winner will receive a $1,000 cash award, a crown and banner and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.

  • Instructor honored

    On Feb. 18 students of Oldham County Martial Arts Academy gathered to surprise their instructor as he was presented with a commendation from Oldham County Judge-Executive David Voegele and a Fourth Degree Black Belt from Eighth Degree Black Belt Marcus Doyle.

    Aaron Burgin opened Oldham County Martial Arts Academy in 2011 and has studied Shaolin Kempo for over 16 years. After two years of intense training with multiple instructors, earning a blue belt in jiujitsu, and testing, Mr. Burgin has earned his fourth stripe on his Black Belt.

  • American Miss Pageant

    Savannah Raisor has been selected as a state finalist in the National American Kentucky Pageant to be held May 9 - 11 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Louisville.

    Savannah, 8, is the granddaughter of Carolyn Walling, both from Crestwood

    The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash reward and will compete in the national competition at Disneyland in California.

    Savannah is the daughter of Nicole and Jeremy Raisor.

    Her activities include cheerleading and gymnastics. She also enjoys singing, dancing and doing karaoke.

    Derron J. Amrein

    Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Derron J. Amrein graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.

    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Air National Guard Airman Matthew R. Brown graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Brown is the son of Rene Brown of Prospect and a 2013 graduate of North Oldham High School.
