The South Oldham Middle School Robotics Team recently competed in one of three regional Student Technology Leadership Program Robotics Tournaments. The tournament, in New Castle, was hosted by Henry County Middle School. Judges were provided by Transylvania University. 

Alex Springer, a seventh-grader, won first place with Brandon Trapp, a sixth-grader, winning second place. Team members Wesley Gresham, Teddy Martin and Ray White, placed fourth. Peyton Culver, a seventh-grader, placed fifth. Evan McManus, a sixth-grader, also competed.

Springer and Trapp advanced to the state robotics tournament at the STLP State Showcase held at Rupp Arena in Lexington. 35 middle school teams competed in three regional tournaments. The top two winning teams from each region are invited to compete for the state title. SOMS Robotics coach Dave Czopek is a retired Ford engineer and is employed as a technical curriculum writer for Amatrol  Inc. of Jeffersonville, Ind.
