Wrestler ranked No. 23 nationally

Though already well known in the bluegrass for his wrestling prowess, Oldham County’s John Shirkey is generating media buzz on the national level. Shirkey, a sophomore, as the No. 23 ranked wrestler in the 126-pound weight class by Wrestling USA magazine.
“I really was surprised,” Shirkey said. “It was one of those things I’ve been working for ever since I started wrestling really. It was a big deal because I’ve devoted so much to the sport. It’s an honor.”
Shirkey’s work ethic is well-known.
