One parent agrees to pay restitution

By Tracy Harris

Two parents charged with falsifying student enrollment appeared before a judge Wednesday afternoon.

Charles Lauron, 51, waived his right to a pre-trial hearing and Judge Diana Wheeler ruled to pass his case on to a grand jury on Dec. 1.

Lauron is charged with owing the school district just over $26,000 after enrolling his son in Oldham County schools for eight years despite living in Lyndon.

John Buehner, 40, agreed to pay restitution of $596 to the school district for the 32 days his child attended school. Buehner claims to now be living at a La Grange address.

Buehner's case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning the school system can re-file charges officials determine Buehner is not actually residing in La Grange.

Investigations for the 2011-12 school year currently number 43 families with 63 children. Of those, 18 cases with 25 children have been resolved, while the rest are pending.
