Sherry Malone has been a patient of Dr. Steven Applegate since the early 1980s.
“You don’t find them like him anymore,” she said. Malone greeted Applegate at the Oldham County Day Grand Marshal Luncheon honoring him Tuesday.
Project Guild member and patient of the doctor Bettie Miller said the luncheon was the largest in the history of the program. Organizers turned people away after the John Black Community Center quickly filled to capacity – 300 people.
“It just shows how he’s loved,” she said.
Speakers recognized Applegate for his tireless energy and depth of care for his patients, even while battling Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“He cares about his patients more than any other doctor I’ve ever heard of,” his son, Carson, told the crowd.
