THUMBS UP - Airport board wants your opinion

Thumbs up to the Oldham County Airport Board’s decision to conduct a county-wide survey to gage local opinion about the proposed airport. Though some have already voiced their opinion – creating the group No Oldham Airport – there are others who have yet to be heard, whether their feelings toward the airport are positive or negative. Those who welcome the proposed airport for the county haven’t been as vocal, and the survey will give them a chance to make their side of the issue known. We support a mailer as the primary form, with the phone survey as the back-up.

It’s a great idea to wait until election season is over to start any of the phone calls or mailings to get residents’ opinions. With all the political ads, mailers and phone calls kicking into high gear for the home stretch, it would be hard to convince someone to stay on the phone or take a few minutes to answer questions.

We hope the board can find the most cost-effective way for solid information that will help them determine if an airport is in Oldham County’s future. Public opinion is important to any board, court, council, etc. making decisions for our community, and we’re glad the airport board agrees.

THUMBS UP - Variety of fall celebrations offer safe outlets for holiday fun

Thumbs up to a number of Halloween-related events planned in the county. Halloween is the only holiday during the year associated with mischief. With several events for those young and old to get candy, wear a costume or enter their carved jack-o-lantern in a contest, this year there are plenty of options, both free and low-priced.

Most events are during the day this weekend, but there are a few nighttime options for families. Whatever the event, it is good to know that there are churches, businesses and organizations in the county that are offering a safe outlet for kids to parade in their costumes and celebrate fall with fun activities.
