Neighbors noticed smoke billowing from a home in Kentucky Acres subdivision and alerted firefighters at lunchtime on Thanksgiving Day.

Crews from South Oldham Fire & Rescue, Ballardsville Fire and Pewee Valley Fire spent much of the afternoon battling a fire in the 7500 block of Derby Drive.

It was reported around 12:45 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but does not appear to be cooking related.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Although crews spent several hours extinguishing the fire and removing smoldering ash from the home, South Oldham Fire and Rescue returned to the home about 5:30 p.m. to extinguish a fire that had rekindled from the earlier blaze.
