GOSHEN – North Oldham High School senior Jason Sterrett has been selected as the 29th District’s Player of the Year.
The award comes from the district’s coaches based on regular season performance.
Sterrett, who has signed to play at Bellarmine University next year, hit a team-high .470 for the Mustangs this season with four home runs and nine doubles. Sterrett, who played pitcher, shortstop and in the outfield, was also the NOHS ace. A right-hander, he compiled a 7-3 record with 92 strikeouts in 54 innings. He posted an ERA of 3.63. Sterrett, led the Mustangs into the regional tourney when he threw a no-hitter at South Oldham in the opening round of the district tourney.
He was joined by teammates Nick Harley, pitcher Chris Tyler, Alex Davidson and Connor Heady.
Harley, a third baseman, hit .413 this season with four home runs and a team-high 29 RBIs. Heady, an eighth-grader, is the first middle schooler from the county to make the team. He started at second base and shortstop for the Mustangs and hit .300.
District champion Oldham County High School placed six players on the team led by pitcher Wade Mason and second baseman Nick DeNise.
Mason, the MVP of the district tourney, posted a 7-0 record for the Colonels with 55 strikeouts in 45 innings. He had an ERA of 1.71.
DeNise hit .427 with seven home runs and 52 RBIs. Also representing OCHS were Blaine Whitehouse, Taylor Riggs, James Knezevich and Dylan Chisholm.
Kenezevich hit .393 with five home runs and 25 RBIs.
South Oldham placed pitcher Daniel Pulliam, catcher Jeremy Criddle and outfielders Alex Sharrard and Cody Seeberger on the team.

Young heads softball
North Oldham High School’s Elizabeth Young heads a trio of local players named to the coaches All-Region softball team.
Young, a sophomore pitcher for the Lady Mustangs, was named to the team after leading NOHS in pitching and hitting.
She also threw a no-hitter this season while hitting .386.
Also on the team are South Oldham sophomore pitcher Alexis Laviena and Oldham County senior pitcher/first baseman Kim McElhinny.
Laviena helped the Lady Dragons reach the regional tournament this season. McElhinny led the Lady Colonels to the district title and the regional finals this season.
She was named to the all-district tourney’s team and made the all-region tournament team for the third year in a row.
Shelby County catcher Shauna Gramig was the regional player of the year.
