The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a speed limit reduction on southbound Interstate 71 in Oldham County. Beginning Tuesday evening, March 11, the speed limit on southbound I-71 will be reduced to 60 MPH between mile points 22 and 20. This area encompasses the work zone for a new bridge over Interstate 71 connecting New Moody Lane (KY 2857) and Commerce Parkway. The new bridge will be located approximately one mile southwest of the KY 53 interchange at LaGrange (Exit 22).
Next week contract crews will be changing the pavement markings on the roadway resulting in a new traffic pattern that shifts the driving lanes to the right. The existing right shoulder will be used as a driving lane. Temporary barrier wall will also be installed along the left shoulder of the roadway.
To accommodate this work, evening lane closures are scheduled on southbound I-71 for March 11-15. These lane closures will occur from 9:00 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. Motorists should use caution traveling through the work zone as construction equipment will be entering and exiting the roadway.
The new traffic pattern and the reduced speed limit will be in place 24 hours a day throughout the duration of this bridge construction. Double fines in the work zone will be enforced.
Gohmann Construction Inc. of Clarksville, Indiana was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $9.1 million. Construction is scheduled for completion in September 2015.
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
