Spaes wins equestrian championship

Mackenzie Spaes, 15, of Prospect, and her horse Ripple Effect recently won the U. S. Eventing Association Area VIII Novice Championship at Kentucky Horse Park.  

Eventing is a three-phase equestrian sport designed to test the training, ability, and strength of a horse as well as the connection between horse and rider.  

Spaes, a freshman at Sacred Heart Academy, won on their dressage score of 22.6 with a clean round in cross country and stadium. She rides at Spring Run Farm and is trained by Carrie Barrick.

She is the daughter of Alan and Anne Spaes.
