While the South Oldham boys’ and girls’ basketball teams picked up wins on the hardwood over the weekend, swimmers claimed first-place finishes in the Oldham County January Invitational.
Jared Ashcraft was the top individual boys’ finisher for the Sea Dragons, grabbing first place in both the boys’ 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. Savannah Walker was the top female swimmer for South, finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the first event, the 200-yard medley relay, the Oldham County girls captured a win, followed by North Oldham and South Oldham in second and third, while the Sea Dragons turned the tables on the boys’ side, grabbing first with Oldham County and North finishing in second and third.
In the first individual event of the meet, the girls’ 200 free, North Oldham’s Rachel Scherer picked up a third place finish followed by teammate Theresa Ford in fourth and OC’s Celine Hummer in fifth.
In the boys’ 200 free, North Oldham teammates Luc Brazeau and Yoni Smolyer finished back-to-back at two, three following Ashcraft’s win.
South Oldham’s Madelyn Hall followed that with a win in the girls’ 200 individual medley, while North’s Anne Scherer and OC’s Paige Geisler finished in second and third, respectively. OC’s Christian Taylor won the boys’ event, followed by South’s Nate Davis and Caylem Ashcraft.
The Sea Dragons added another win in the next event as Lydia Jackson captured a win, while Bailey Walker finished right behind her in second. OC’s Emily Smith finished in fourth with North’s Maddie Holt clocking right behind her in fifth. Clayton Helsley picked up another win for North in the boys’ race followed by OC’s CJ Skinner and South’s Joel Pittman.
South’s Chris Fitch finished in first in the 100 butterfly followed by OC’s John Hoskins and North’s Mark Scherer in second and third.
Other winners include North’s Anne Scherer in the girls’ 100 free, OC’s CJ Skinner in the 500 free, OC’s Emma Skinner in the 100 back, OC’s Taylor and Kelly Klump in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke and South’s Avery Deshler in the 100 breaststroke.
