Opening the Henry County Invitiational Tournament against Atherton Dec. 27, the South Oldham Dragons made short work of the Rebels, jumping out to a 21-8 lead and never looking back.

"We didn't have a good warm up so we were kind of worried that we would kind of come out flat," South coach Steve Simpson said. "Well, we came out okay but then they kind of tied it up from there. The rest of the quarter we went on a good run. I was pretty pleased with our start. From that point on, we kind of treaded water but all wins are good wins."

That advantage grew to 35-15 at the half but from there Atherton clawed their way back into the game once the Dragon reserves entered the game, rattling off seven straight points to trim the deficit to 13 midway through the third.

South regained its bearings in the final frame though, holding off the Rebels to secure the win.

Shae Goodlett had a night to remember, scoring 27 points on 12 field goals and a 3-for-4 performance from the line.

"“He just plays with so much heart and just works so hard under there against those bigger guys,” Simpson said. “He’s just a warrior under there."

Matthew Haysley and Jack Sherry added 11 each to pace the Dragons.
