The South Oldham Dragons went from the bottom to the top in a year's time, rebounding from a first round district exit to 29th District champs after a 6-4 win over defending 8th Region champion North Oldham.
Still, after falling behind by three runs after just an inning and a half, it would take some work. Jacob Lamb would get things started in the bottom half of the second, roping a triple to right field and Drew Lively would follow that up with an extra base hit of his own, crushing a double to open the scoring for South.
Cody Kollenberg would get in on the action shortly as well, picking up another double to bring two more home and Drew Greenwood would tie the game up on a single one batter later. That said, Greenwood would get tossed trying to extend the hit into a double.
Still, from there, Jordan Simons would keep the party going for the Dragons, smashing a roundtripper to left to take the lead at 5-4. That said, they would add one more later in the game to end the scoring and coast from there.
Both team will now advance to the 8th Region Baseball tournament next week at Collins with a shot at state on the line.
In softball action, defending 29th District champion Oldham County added another trophy to their case Thursday night, knocking out North Oldham 6-2 in the district finale. The win extends the Lady Colonels' record-setting total to 31. Both schools will now advance into the 8th Region Tournament at South Oldham High School early next week.
Both baseball and softball will have a drawing over the weekend to determine opponents.
