Coach Jamie Reed’s South Oldham squad will get one of its toughest tests of the season Friday when Collins, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, comes to Crestwood.
The Titans (0-1) fell 23-21 to Simon Kenton Friday but bring a dangerous team to Dragon Stadium. Collins features two Western Kentucky commits, athlete DeAndre Farris and linebacker Masai Whyte.
Farris and Whyte are both two-star prospects, per Rivals.com.
“They’re probably one of the top teams in the state, regardless of class,” Reed said.
South comes into Friday off an impressive performance in its season opener, a 30-8 win at East Jessamine. New starting quarterback Chase Lightfoot was named game MVP after throwing for 131 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 72 yards and three more scores. Nick Bass and Starr Thompson both had interceptions, while Chauncey Mills added a fumble recovery.
“In our program, we don’t think anyone is above us,” Reed said. “We feel like we can compete with any team on any given Friday night… We may not get as much recognition as Collins and some of the other schools, but I think our kids put a pretty good product on the field and they’ll be fired up for Friday night.”
