OLDHAM COUNTY – The emphasis will be on soccer this year in the SON Tournament hosted by the North Oldham, Oldham County and South Oldham high school girls’ soccer   programs.

In past years, the schools have offered special promotions like a movie night for the teams and other activities. This year, everything will focus on the play on the fields at NOHS and SOHS.

“It’s another pretty strong field,” OCHS coach Dan Schulz said. “We have some teams that will challenge for their regional titles.”

This year’s field includes three defending regional champions in South Oldham, DuPont Manual and Elizabethtown while Male and NOHS were both regional runners-up. Also in the field with OCHS are Scott County, Nelson County and northern Kentucky powers Ft. Thomas Highlands and Bishop Brossart.

Since a couple of teams were forced to drop out of the tourney due to travel concerns, the final schedule is still being tweaked.

The tourney will start with games at SOHS Monday, Aug. 16 and run all week with pool play. The final two days on Saturday, Aug. 21 and Sunday Aug. 22 will be played at NOHS.

SOHS will host Elizabethtown at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 and host Highlands at 8 p.m. Aug. 19.
