BUCKNER – The SON Soccer Invitiational will field another strong field again this year.

The tourney, hosted by the South Oldham, Oldham County and North Oldham high school girls’ soccer programs, features a 12-team field with play starting Aug. 17 at all three local schools.

“It’s a really strong field,” OCHS coach Danny Schulz said. “All three Oldham County teams should be very good before the year is over and three or four of the teams should be ranked in the top five in the state.”

Leading the SON field in the coaches preseason poll is No. 2 Manual followed by No. 3 Lexington Catholic and No. 5 Highlands. Also in the field are No. 12 Elizabethtown, No. 25 Bishop Brossart and Nelson County in the also receiving votes category. SOHS is the highest ranked local team at No. 13 followed by OCHS at No. 19 and NOHS at No. 20.

Rounding out the field are Male, Covington Holy Cross and Bowling Green.

Teams will compete in four three-team pools with each team advancing to a second round according to their finish in pool play.

Opening rounds will be at all three local schools with play shifting to NOHS at noon Aug. 22. The championship games will be played Aug. 23.

There will also be a pool party at the Oldham County Aquatics Center from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 21 for the players and their guests.

“It will be a chance for the players to swim and have some fun or to just hang out and socialize a little bit,” Schulz said.
