Clouds covered the sky all day Friday, with spurts of rain throughout the afternoon and evening. While it was enough to cancel some events, the Independence Day celebration at Wendell Moore Park went on as scheduled, almost.
Early in the afternoon, visitors to the John W. Black Community Center and Aquatics Center participated in water games. Later, the Oldham County Community Band performed, but a sudden downpour delayed “Steel of the Night,” a steel drum band. Also delayed was the recognition ceremony of the 10th anniversary of the John W. Black Community Center and Aquatic Center. Both John Black and Wendell Moore attended and spoke about the beginnings of the community center, aquatics center, and park, respectively. “I think this is one of the prettiest parks in the state of Kentucky, and in the South,” Moore said. “And I’m not just saying that because it’s named after me.”
