A woman is in the hospital and a suspect is in custody following a shooting at a La Grange apartment complex.
Police responded to a disturbance call at an apartment in the 900-block of Russell Ave. in the Cedar Court complex about 4:12 p.m. Friday.
Sgt. Bruce Goodfleisch of La Grange Police Department said the first officer was on scene three minutes later and apprehended the alleged shooter without incident.
Inside the apartment, police say they found a woman with a bullet wound to her upper arm. She was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with what appears to be a minor injury.
No one else was hurt in the shooting.
Police did not confirm the identities of the victim or the suspect in custody or their relationship to one another.
Neighbors say the victim is Lisa York, a mother of four who has lived at the apartment for more than six months.
They also believe the man taken into police custody is the victim's husband, David York.
Three of the victim's four children were playing just outside the apartment when the shooting happened, neighbors say. The youngest, a toddler daughter, was inside at the time.
Sgt. Goodfleisch did not confirm how many shots were fired, but said one bullet did go through the wall and into a neighboring apartment.
Carol Cox, who lives next door, said she was washing dishes about five feet from where the bullet pierced the wall of her kitchen pantry.
Cox, her daughter, Leslie Bird, and Bird's three children were in the apartment at the time. Bird said the gunshots were so loud, she thought the bathtub had crashed through the ceiling.
Christie Harkins, who lives in a nearby building, held the victim's visibly shaken daughter while police checked the toddler for injuries.
She said the shooting took everybody by surprise and nothing like that had happened in the five years she's lived at Cedar Court.
Neighbors were looking after the victim's four children. Harkins said they had contacted family members to look after them.
Sgt. Goodfleisch said the investigation is ongoing and is still preliminary.
