La Grange Police are investigating reports of sexual abuse at The Richwood nursing home in La Grange.
According to police, alleged sexual abuse was reported around noon Tuesday at the nursing home, 1025 Richwood Way in La Grange.
Police spokesperson Maj. Frank Conway issued a press release indicating that the alleged victim is a 74-year-old Alzheimer's patient. The alleged abuse was reported by another patient.
On Tuesday, the alleged victim was transported to Baptist Hospital Northeast for examination. According to Conway, the claims of sexual abuse could not be substantiated at this time, as there were no indications of trauma on the patient.
However, Conway said the investigation is on going as the department follows-up with other employees of The Richwood.
As of Wednesday morning, a second report of sexual abuse had been filed with the La Grange Police Department. Conway said after news of the initial report spread, the family of another patient filed their own report.
Conway said the incidents are separate and that the department is investigating both complaints.
Elisa Gnagie, spokesperson for The Richwood, confirmed the two reports had been filed. She said federal regulations require any claims of abuse to be reported to the proper authorities, rather it be a bruise or skin tear or sexual abuse.
"We are very, very regulated," Gnagie said. The Richwood reports incidents directly to the police before conducting any type of internal investigation. Most importantly, she said, The Richwood immediately worked to ensure residents were safe from any harm.
