A special meeting of the La Grange City Council has put a new compensation tax on the fast track. A new version of the controversial proposed tax could be passed after a second reading at the next meeting, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5.
The proposed tax, one of six new ordinances having a first reading Monday, would take 1 percent of salary or hourly wages paid to anyone working within La Grange city limits.
Mayor Bill Lammlein said last week he was going to try to get the tax up for a vote as soon as possible.
