Saturday is hazardous waste collection event

The Latest: The county is hosting its annual Hazardous Waste Collection Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Oldham County Fairgrounds.

Acceptable items include oil-based or lead paints, varnishes stains and solvents; paint thinner; degreasers; compact and tube fluorescent light bulbs; one- and 20-pound grill propane tanks; non-pressurized fire extinguishers; antifreeze, gasoline; tars; oven, drain, bathroom, rug and upholstery cleaners; mercury thermometers; and lead acid and dry cell batteries.

Among the items not accepted are motor oil, latex and water-based paint, radioactive materials, smoke detectors, explosives, regulated medical waste and materials from businesses and non-residents of Oldham County.

The event is funded in part through a grant from Kentucky Division of Waste Management and is a partnership between Oldham County Solid Waste and the Storm Water Management District.
