Saturday is a fun-filled day in Oldham County

Oldham County Backyard BBQ & craft festival

The South Oldham Lions Club is sponsoring the Oldham County Backyard BBQ and craft festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Crestwood.

Admission is free and the event features music by “Hog Operation,” a play area for the kids, adult and kids’ backyard BBQ competition, arts and crafts booths, a cornhole tournament, a “Battle of the High School Bands” contest and more.

There will also be a Best Pie in Oldham County Contest. There is a $5 entry fee per pie.

Regtistration and practice for the cornhole tournament takes place from 10 a.m. to noon and the tournament takes place at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. 

The festival is located on The Maples property, 7036 W. Ky. 22 in Crestwood.

Westport River Daze festival

The Westport River Daze festival offers fun for the whole family this Saturday.  

• 7 a.m. – 5K run/1K walk at Westport Park

• 10 a.m. – Parade down Main Street, Westport Fire Department Explorer Unit  grand marshalls.

• 11 a.m. – Horseshoe tournament and registration for car show.

• 1 p.m. Bluegrass Cornhole sanctioned tournament 

• 2 p.m. Spirit of Jefferson river boat boards for two-hour Ohio River cruise.

• 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. –  guided historical walking tours, providing details about Westport’s heritage.

The event also includes kids’ activities, booths, food, watercraft demonstrations, martial arts demonstrations and music.

OC Grand Slam’s Apple Patch race is Saturday

The final leg of this year’s Oldham County Grand Slam of Running – the Apple Patch 5K –is 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Brownsboro.

The 5K run and 1-mile walk begins at Brownsboro General Store on Ky. 329. Registration begins at 7:30 for runners and the fee for any runner who hasn’t signed up yet is $25.

All participants will receive an Apple Patch t-shirt and the top three finishers in each age group receive trophies.

Church’s Family Fun Event is Sunday

Faith Community Church is sponsoring a family fun event. The free event is designed for families to have a fun-filled afternoon making memories and connecting with other families from our neighborhood and community.  

The event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Gingerwoods Event Hall, 7611 Rose Island Road, Prospect.  

Visitors can scale the mobile rock climbing wall provided by RockSport, enjoy food donated by Tony BoomBozz Pizza, cool down on the inflatable waterslide, and enter to win the grand prize drawing for a dinner by Stoney River legendary steaks. 

Faith Community Church is sponsoring this event in celebration of its one-year anniversary.

Second shredding event is Saturday

The second annual free community shredding event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oldham County Fairgrounds.

Last year, more than 1.7 tons of material were shredded and recycled at the event.

A+ Paper Shredding, of Crestwood, donates services for the day and there is no limit to the amount of materials residents may bring. Items that can be brought for shredding include documents, discs, credit cards and other confidential materials.  All paper materials will be shredded on site and recycled to make materials such as paper towels, napkins, tissues, and toilet paper.

The event is a partnership with the Oldham County Fair Board and Solid Waste and Recycling Department.

 

Oldham Studio Tour & Art Sale

The fourth annual Oldham Studio Tour and Art Sale takes place Saturday and Sunday. The tour and art sale showcase the work of artists who live, work and create in Oldham County.  Both traditional and contemporary media are exhibited in the two-day, multi location event,  from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Of the 18 studios with 45 participating artists scattered around the county, seven are located in La Grange, one each in Crestwood and Pewee Valley.  The Westport community will host nine studio locations.
