Rusch finishes 3rd, Wilkerson 4th at state wrestling

LEXINGTON – Two county wrestlers made the top four in their weight classes at the KHSAA state wrestling championships Saturday at the Alltech Arena.

North Oldham senior Mitch Rusch finished third in the 160-pound weight class, losing 4-2 in overtime of a semifinal match with eventual state champion Dominic Lampe of St. Xavier.

Rusch beat Central Hardin’s Cole Overman 9-2 in the third place match to finish his senior season 53-5.

Oldham County senior Connor Wilkerson finished fourth in the 138-pound weight class. He also lost to a state champion, Campbell County’s Sean Fausz, in the quarterfinals.

Wilkerson then won three consolation matches before losing 7-1 to Benjamin Barton of Trinity in the third place match. He finished his senior year with a 39-7 record.

OC finished 11th overall with 73 points. North was 25th with 43.5. South, which sent four wrestlers who were all eliminated Friday, finished 57th with 10 points.

Other Colonel wrestlers to finish on the podium included Brady Emerson (seventh, 126) and Ben Leaton (sixth, 182).

North’s John Reitnauer finished eighth in the 152 class.
