Oldham Girl Wins Scholarship by Participating in Library’s Summer Literacy Programming

Kaitlyn Osorio (age 5), pictured below holding the check for her $1000 Scholarship from the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust, was a big winner in the Oldham County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program this year.

The Library’s annual Summer Reading Extravaganza was enjoyed by nearly 5,000 youths this past season and everyone who signed up received a chance for their name to be drawn for the $1,000 scholarship presented by the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust and TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc.

This is the third time in the four years that the scholarship has been offered that an Oldham County youngster has been the recipient.  Shannon Kruer, the Childrens’ Services Librarian, pictured on the far right, received $500 for the library to be used for childrens’ collections and services.  A representative of KHEAA, The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, Candice Johnson presented the checks to Kaitlyn and Ms. Kruer recently at the Main Library in La Grange.

Kaitlyn, the daughter of Victor and Terra Osorio, attends kindergarten currently at Buckner Elementary School.
