The Oldham County Public Library will award $600 in scholarship money to an outstanding student in the class of 2008. The aim of the scholarship is to reward students that have provided exemplary service in the school library media center or in the public library and have exhibited potential for accomplishment in the field of librarianship. The library hopes to stimulate interest in pursuing a career in librarianship. “Recruiting and educating the next generation of librarians is essential,” Library Director Susan Eubank said. “They help parents teach their children before they enter school; they are school librarians and partners with the schools in their communities, and they help adults continue to achieve and enjoy learning throughout their lifetimes.” The recipients of the Oldham County Public Library Award may use the scholarship money for any purpose related to academic life: tuition, support for book fees and other educational expenses. Graduating seniors at Oldham County High School, North Oldham High School, South Oldham High School and Buckner Alternative High School are eligible to apply. Forms to apply for the Oldham County Public Library Scholarship are available at all three library branches and on the Web at http://www.oldhampl.org/news_scholarship_form.pdf. All applications should be mailed to Oldham County Public Library, Scholarship Application, Administrative Offices, P.O. Box 406, Buckner, KY, 40010, and should be postmarked by May 5. The winner of the scholarship will be notified by May 25.
