Officials from Oldham County EMS are hoping that a new pink stripe on OCEMS ambulances will increase awareness and maybe even attract some graffiti.

OCEMS Director Ron Wilder said employees of OCEMS donated money to have two ambulances striped with pink to promote breast cancer awareness. Officials said no public funds were used. The stripes will remain on the trucks through the month of October, and the trucks will be on hand at breast cancer awareness events throughout Oldham and Jefferson counties.

OCEMS is asking breast cancer survivors to stop by headquarters and sign the pink stripe. Wilder said the hope is that in doing so, people will understand the awareness campaign isn’t just an advertising gimmick. It’s a reminder that every day, women are diagnosed with breast cancer. But more importantly, Wilder said, an increasing number of those diagnosed with the disease are surviving.

OCEMS is headquartered at 3639 W. Ky. 146 in La Grange.
