At 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday), about 23,000 phones will ring in Oldham County. When answered, a pre-recorded message will notify residents that this is only a test. The call is the first county-wide test of the Emergency Notification System, which can alert an area as small as a neighborhood or as big as the county of any emergency situation within minutes.Kevin Nuss, director of Oldham County Emergency Management, said there are three ways the system notifies county residents. The first is called geo-mapping, and allows Nuss to select a specific area of the county to receive the call.
