Oldham's Mallek sets record at Lyles meet

LOUISVILLE – Oldham County High School’s Joe Mallek set a new meet record in the 800-meter run at the Lenny Lyles Track and Field Invitational at Central High School over the weekend.

Mallek won the race with a time of 1.58:97, beating the old mark of 2.02.33 set by Jon Erickson of Manual last year. Mallek finished just ahead of Trevor Jones of Southwestern who came in at 1.59:44, also breaking the old meet record.

Mallek’s finish helped the Colonels finish 11th as a team in the meet.
