Oldham County hosts ‘Freedom Celebration’ July 4

Wendell Moore Park is the site of Oldham County’s Freedom Celebration on Independence Day. 

From 2 to 4 p.m., the John Black Aquatics Center will host pool games.

Country music band Long Shot will perform from 6 to 7:45 p.m. at the park. The Oldham County Community Band will perform patriotic music from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at 10 p.m. 

Park festivities are free. 

Laura Feese, director of the aquatics center, said the two-hour span of pool games includes contests for all ages, including a patriotic swim wear contest for children, a cannonball contest for adults, bucket relays, family inner tube relays, hula hoop contests and a greased watermelon dive.

Pool admission is $5 for ages 13-59, $4 for ages 3-12, $3 for ages 60 and older and free for children 2 and younger.

Judge-Executive Duane Murner will be a special guest and will open the ceremony.
