It took a little while for the Oldham County Lady Colonels to get started Wednesday night but once they did, there was no looking back as they trounced rival North Oldham 77-38 to move into second place in the 29th district.

Through the first six minutes of the game though, North Oldham, not OC, looked to be the team with all the momentum, grinding out to a quick 13-7 lead behind tough interior play from forward Taylor Moore.

That's also when Oldham County started to turn up the defensive intensity, blitzing the Lady Mustangs to the tune of 27-8 over the next 10 minutes to enter the half up 34-21.

Ball-handling, a weakpoint for North Oldham in recent weeks, proved to be the difference again against Oldham County as the Lady Colonels were able to force 32 turnovers, many in the open court.

Ashley McMurtrey was the game's leading scorer, pouring in 25 points for Oldham County, while Abigail Stewart added 12 points and 6 rebounds as well.

Taylor Moore paced North Oldham with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Oldham County will return to the court Friday as they travel to Shelby County for a 6 p.m. game. while North Oldham welcomes Dixie Heights to Goshen Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
