Oldham County girls edge Presentation

-A A +A

By RANDY HEITE
Oldham County defeated Presentation Academy, 61-48 on Saturday evening, ending the Colonels three game skid.
The pair matched each other point-for-point in the first quarter, with Oldham County taking a slight lead at 14-13.
Ashley McMurtrey would lead the Colonels with 8 points at the quarter and they never looked back from there, taking advantage of a smaller Presentation team.
McMurtrey  led the team in scoring with 24, while transfer Jenna Kirk added a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.
But those two weren’t the only weapons on the night. senior Jessica Leanhart also plays a large role. Leanhart is one of the team leaders in scoring, averaging 13+ points a game, second only to Ashley McMurtrey.
“She just pressures the ball so she gets fast break layups,”Bryant said. “She’s also just so strong physically so she can drive to the basket and if people bump her, it doesn’t bother her.”
Oldham County put the nail in the coffin late in the third quarter as Rebecca Heite hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the third quarter
“We were the first team that dove on the floor, we were the most physical team, and most important, we competed,” Coach Jace Bryant. “This was a well-deserved win for these girls.”
Oldham County will take to the road on Friday night, playing district rival, Trimble County. Oldham County ended Trimble County’s season last year in the 29th District playoffs with a game that went down to the final 0.2 seconds where McMurtrey hit the game winning free-throw.
