La Grange officials are once again considering a nuisance ordinance to kick garbage cans back from the curb.

City officials heard a first reading Monday night of a nuisance ordinance tabled in December 2007.

The ordinance aims to limit accumulation of debris and abandoned or unused objects or equipment.

The ordinance outlines examples of that equipment and provides that garbage containers left on the street either 24 hours before or after scheduled pickup will be declared a nuisance.

Trees, athletic equipment, skateboard ramps or vehicles obstructing streets, sidewalks or drainage will also be declared a nuisance. A second reading is planned Nov. 2.
