LOUISVILLE – Three Oldham County High School golfers have qualified to play in the state tournament after qualifying in their respective regional meets Monday and Tuesday.
For the OCHS boys, Taylor Riggs qualified shooting a 76 at Seneca Golf Course. He was three strokes behind individual champion Justin Thomas of St. X who shot a 73.
St. X won the team title with a score of 309. OCHS tied for sixth with KCD at 335 while North Oldham was one stroke behind at 336.
The Mustangs who finished tied for second in the region last year, suffered through a tough day on the fast greens at Seneca.
“We hit the ball pretty well,” NOHS coach Larry Dunn said. “We just couldn’t sink a putt.’
The Mustangs had James Wistrom lead with an 80, followed by Alex Foley with an 83, Larry Parrella with an 84 and Kameron Shams with an 85.
For the girls, OCHS’ Meghan Theiss and Leah Pehlke both qualified and helped the Lady Colonels to a third place finish as a team at Midland Golf Course.
Theiss shot an 81 to tie for fifth with Manual’s Haley Koesters.
Pehlke shot an 83 to finish seventh.
The Lady Colonels finished with 349 points. Sacred Heart won with 323 while Shelby County was second at 343.
