Story by Randy Heite
Though the official start of basketball season is still weeks away, new Oldham girls basketball coach Jace Bryant got his first taste of what the season will hold Friday night as the Colonels took to the court in their annual Blue-White scrimmage.
Despite last year’s up and down season, Bryant said he has high expectations for his team.
“We’re going to get better every day and every practice,” he said. “I’m not going to put a number on this team, but we talk about winning district every day we come into practice.”
The Colonels return this season with their leading scorer, Ashley McMurtrey, as well as four key seniors from last year in Rebecca Heite, Jessica Leanhart, Rebecca Wishnevski and Sarah Lopecilvero.
There will be some new faces as well though as Oldham County welcomes transfer Jenna Kirk from Mississippi. Kirk is expected to be a big addition to the Lady Colonels as they mount their attempt to dethrone South Oldham.
Oldham County starts the 2012-13 season at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 26 against Bardstown at home.
