GOSHEN – If Oldham County Lady Colonels coach Larry Just reached any player during his halftime speech – it was Emily Lape.
Lape scored eight points and had three steals as the OCHS came back from a three-point halftime deficit to beat North Oldham 47-36 Friday. “I think we just needed to start focusing and get our heads in the game,” Lape said. “It’s a big win for us because of the district.” NOHS built its lead behind offense from Nicole Bryant and Allison Olive. OCHS’ Ericka Hardin, who scored 13 points, kept the Lady Colonels in the game early. The Lady Colonels opened the second half with a shot in the post from Lape and then a follow shot from Lape to lead 23-22. NOHS countered with a shot in the lane from Olive. Lape hit a shot in the lane, then came up with a steal that eventually led to her scoring on a layup to give OCHS a 27-24 lead. Lape stole an entry pass that led to a jumper from the foul line from Brooke Leanhart. Hardin hit a three-pointer and another follow shot from Lape gave the Lady Colonels a 34-24 lead. “In the second half we relaxed,” Just said. “In the first half the kids played so hard, they were trying too hard to make something good happen. We just told them to go out and have fun.” OCHS closed the third period with a follow from Lape and a pair of shots from Audri Beaudrie, a 17-footer from the corner and a three-pointer for a 41-28 lead. “For two quarters we played pretty good,” NOHS coach Nancy Martin said. “They got on a little roll and we didn’t respond and a lot of that was due to our turnovers. The bottom line is we have to do a better job of taking care of the ball.” OCHS - 8 11 22 6 47 - Ericka Hardin 13, Brooke Leanhart 7, Kelsey Lummus 2, Emily Lape 12, Audri Beaudrie 9, Leah Pehlke 4, 47.
