OCHS attains top seed

BUCKNER – The Oldham County High School baseball and softball teams secured the No. 1 seeds in next week’s respective 29th district tournaments.The Lady Colonels are the defending district and regional champions.OCHS, ranked No. 18 in the state, finished fourth in the state last year and is going after a third straight regional crown this year.South Oldham is the defending district baseball champion, upsetting OCHS 4-0 in last year’s title game after the Colonels entered the district tourney with an undefeated district record.SoftballOCHS will host the softball tourney.First round play starts at 6 p.m. Monday with OCHS taking on No. 4 seed North Oldham.The Lady Colonels are 17-12 with a 5-1 district record.They swept both games with NOHS, 4-15, this year.The Lady Colonels beat the Lady Mustangs 10-0 in five innings in the first game and won the second game 6-0.OCHS also swept SOHS in the regular season winning the first game 10-0 in five innings in the season opener and taking the second game 6-5 in a nine inning thriller.At 7:45 p.m. Monday, South Oldham will take on Trimble County.SOHS is 12-6 this year. Trimble County is 15-6.SOHS split with Trimble County this year winning 7-4 and losing 11-1.The finals are set for 7 p.m. May 21 at OCHS.The winner and runner-up will advance to the regional tournament the following week at OCHS.BaseballOpening round play is Tuesday at Trimble County High School with a 1 p.m. start when OCHS takes on Trimble County.OCHS, 16-8, was undefeated in district play this season to win the No. 1 seed.The Colonels beat Trimble County 12-1 and 18-1 in the regular season, both wins came in five innings.OCHS swept SOHS this season winning the first game 11-3 and the second game 15-5 in five innings.The Colonels also swept NOHS winning the first game 5-1 and the second game 11-6.At 4 p.m. NOHS will take on SOHS. NOHS is 16-11 and SOHS is 8-18.They split this year with NOHS winning 2-0 and SOHS taking the second game 10-5.The finals are set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.The winner and runner-up will advance to the regional tourney the following week at Henry County High School.
