Oldham County’s defense will make a transition this week in the style of offense it’s facing.
Last Friday the Colonels (1-1) went against North Oldham’s run-oriented wing-T. This week they’ll face one of the region’s more traditionally pass-happy outfits, Franklin County (2-0).
But the school that recently produced UK wide receiver Ryan Timmons has used the running game more this year, featuring dual-threat talent Lorenzo McCaskell. McCaskell scored three touchdowns last week in Franklin’s 46-13 demolition of Western Hills.
“The last two weeks they’ve been able to hand the ball off and just run for touchdowns,” Oldham coach Matt Brown said. “They’ve rushed the ball really, really, really well.”
Keeping constant pressure on Flyers quarterback Barrett Sanderson will be a key to slowing down the Franklin offense, Brown said. He said he looked for defensive linemen Luke Collins and Elijah Keen to get after Sanderson.
“The last two weeks we’ve kind of sat back and haven’t blitzed a lot,” Brown said. “This week we have to turn up the pressure.”
