LA GRANGE - Hoping the home field advantage may be just the edge they need, the North Oldham Little League Senior All-Stars are primed for another run at the state softball title.
The All-Stars will start their run at the title after winning the District 2 championship for the second year in a row last week at Nelson County. The state tourney for both the senior and junior divisions will start at 4 p.m. Saturday at Walsh Park in La Grange.
The senior stars, made up of players ages 15 to 16, beat Nelson County 16-6 in the district title game behind some solid pitching from Madi Smith and Kelly Vogel and a home run from first baseman Jessica Reinbold. It was Reinbold’s second home run of the district tourney, the first coming in an earlier round against Nelson County.
“We hit it pretty well as a team in the tournament and our defense is pretty good,” North Oldham manager Charlie Prather said.
North Oldham will battle with Adair County, East Ridge, Olive Hill and Red River for the title. The opening game at 4 p.m. Saturday against Adair County will be a chance for revenge.
“They had a nice team last year and put us out of the tournament,” Prather said.
Prather said the team has had several different players step up at different times to either deliver a key hit or big defensive play.
“They are a pretty confident group,” Prather said. “I think our chances are good. I think we could win this thing.”
Prather is assisted by Chris Smith and Chris Pride. Team members are Brittany Birch, Cody Butler, Jessica Clifford, Breann Heid, Danielle Heid, Jessica Reinbold, Kim Roberts, Madi Smith, Kara Stinson, Kelly Vogel and Paige Whitaker.
